David Via, PE

Having grown up in Wilson, NC, David understands the importance of education in smaller communities and the impact they can have on a lifetime of learning.
An Eagle Scout and alumnus of the McCallie School, David graduated from North Carolina State University on a Naval ROTC scholarship with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a Minor in Naval Science. Via is a Navy Veteran of 5 years who served on board USS BAINBRIDGE (DDG 96) and is the recipient of numerous military awards, including the Navy Commendation Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism - Expeditionary and Service Medals, and the Navy Deployment Sea Service Ribbon. During his service he was also awarded the peer nominated Navy and Marine Corps Association Leadership Award.
Back in his home town of Wilson, NC David also gives his time to the local community. He serves as a board member with the North Carolina Baseball Museum, an all volunteer group which hosts a collection of memorabilia to show memory, honor and recognition to players, fans and their families. Via also serves on the board of the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, an art exhibit and museum dedicated to the folk art of Vollis Simpson. He serves on the North Carolina State University Young Alumni Council as well, focusing on connecting and empowering young alumni across the world to each other and the university.
David currently works as a Civil Engineer for Bartlett Engineering and Surveying, a family owned engineering firm serving Eastern North Carolina. He also serves on the Preface Scholarship Subcommittee.
