Newest Expansionary Preface Partnership Launches in South Carolina to Support Charleston Community

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Preface, R.B. Stall High School, and Midland Park Primary jointly announced a pioneering expansion of the Preface model to serve the next generation in the Palmetto State.

CHARLESTON, SC. – Preface has made another significant stride in its mission to create equality through education and early childhood literacy, thanks to its newly launched partnership in Charleston, SC. On November 20, R.B. Stall High School and Midland Park Primary officially launched their Preface partnership – establishing the first-ever Ambassador Corps serving South Carolina students.

Now fully virtual, thanks to the unique circumstances presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, Stall Ambassadors will work regularly with Midland Park Primary students in small group settings to bridge comprehension gaps and foster early childhood literacy – with a multilingual twist!

“Midland Park is incredibly excited to engage in this new partnership with the Preface Project and Stall High School Ambassadors,” said Melissa Miller, Midland Park Primary’s Preface Liaison. “We have a unique student population in that many of our students come from diverse backgrounds and many are English Language Learners. We are always looking for opportunities to incorporate their culture, language and community into their learning experiences. The students at MPP are going to be thrilled to have a new ‘friend’ that they get to talk to and read with every week!”

“R.B. Stall High School is excited to begin this partnership with Preface,” said R.B. Stall High School Principal Jeremy Carrick. “We have a school full of wonderful students with the skills and the desire to give back to their community. I am proud of our students for their desire to invest their time with students that are experiencing the same obstacles they faced growing up. As our partnership with Preface grows, I know it will make a positive difference for our community. Increasing their literacy in their early years is the most impactful academic difference you can make for a student. This program gives Stall students the ability to make that difference for students at Midland Park Primary School in the North Charleston community.”

“I was very impressed to learn that these Stall Ambassadors were trained in educational best practices and received credentialing sessions on how to implement effective guided reading lessons,” added Miller. “Even more, I know I can speak for all of the Kindergarten teachers in saying that we are thrilled that our students will not only get the chance to develop a positive relationship, but that they will also be expanding their reading and literacy skills!"

"It’s inspiring to think that they will have a mentor that may speak the same languages as them and who also live in the same community," continued Miller. "It is great to know that our students will be getting individualized reading sessions that mirror and complement the same things that we are learning in the classroom. This partnership between our Kindergarten students, our local high school mentors and the Preface team is the perfect opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our young and growing students!”
