Preface Founder JT Wu Named to the YNPN Atlanta 30 Under 30 Class of 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ATLANTA, GA. – Earlier this year, Jonathan “JT” Wu, the Founder & Executive Director of Preface, was named to the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Atlanta (YNPN) 30 Under 30 Class of 2020 - an exciting milestone achievement accepted on behalf of the entire Preface team. Founded in 2019, Preface is the newest nonprofit to be recognized with this distinction in this year's class.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be representing our entire Preface team on the YNPN Atlanta 30 Under 30 Class of 2020,” said Wu. “YNPN Atlanta has consistently sought to highlight innovative leaders making a difference in the Peach State - and we are so grateful to be coming alongside such a great group to fight for even greater educational opportunities both here in Georgia and beyond.”

The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Atlanta recognizes 30 individuals in Georgia each year who display exemplary leadership, innovation, and commitment to their communities. YNPN recognizes the importance of current young nonprofit leaders, because their impacts today shape the future of the Atlanta philanthropic community and beyond.

Since the launch of its pilot programs in 2019, Preface has quickly proved to be an impactful partner in communities across the nation. In as little as 10 weeks, students using Preface’s individualized virtual or in-person models have gone from functionally illiterate to reading at or above grade level - even during the challenges of COVID-19.

Today, 65% of kids in America are still struggling to read at grade level by the fourth grade, according to the U.S. Department of Education. With childhood illiteracy remaining a pressing national issue, the Preface team knew they could not wait any longer to start making a difference.

“When our leadership team came together to found Preface back in 2019, we knew that we wanted to build something grounded in time-tested methods and educational best practices,” said Wu, “but that didn't necessarily require us raising millions and millions of dollars to start making a difference in the lives of students and teachers.

Far from resting on its laurels, Preface is continuing to grow its presence across the country, currently operating in over 10 states across America. For Wu and the Preface team, this innovation and rapid expansion is an exciting validation of Preface’s core mission - the students they serve.

“As the Preface model continues to be individually tailored and deployed to serve the needs of diverse communities across America, the Preface story has always been and always will be a collective group effort focused on serving the next generation,” said Wu.

“Today, I just feel so thankful that our team's Georgia-grown approach to fostering Equality Through Education and early childhood literacy has been publicly recognized for its success by the 30 Under 30 Selection Committee,” he continued.

Preface is proud to be recognized by the YNPN Atlanta 30 under 30 award for their efforts and dedication to their mission. Wu and the entire Preface team have proven to embody the characteristics of a recipient— dedicated, innovative, impactful, and committed to making a difference. As Preface continues to grow, their mission remains the same. Supporting children by Equality through Education will remain the core mission of Preface— and they are grateful to have YNPN Atlanta’s support as they continue their impact on children all over the nation.
